| The pitch was hard and the sky was blue for what we believe to be the first meeting between teams representing these two villages. Hambrook had early possession but failed to make the most of some good work down the right wing, and it was Chidham who opened the scoring on 11 minutes with a deflected shot by David Knight from 8 yards. The goal of the match was scored 5 minutes later when Pete Rough's volley from just out side the box thundered in to the back of the net to extend Chidham's lead. Hambrook were awarded a penalty on 34 minutes after a handball in the area, but James Bracker fired against the left hand up right. Ben Wheeler added a third for Chidham before half time. Hambrook rallied in the second half, and opened their account in the 63rd minute, Lloyd Davis finishing off a swift move down the right wing. The heat started to tell on the players as the match past the hour mark none more so than the Hambrook keeper who handled the ball from a back pass, giving Chidham an indirect free kick inside the 6 yard box. The kick was floated to the far post and tucked away neatly by an unmarked David Knight for his second of the game and Chidham's forth. Ian Fumagalll made it 5 for Chidham on 75 minutes. Hambrook rallied late on in an even contest, despite the score line, and pulled back a consolation goal on 77 minutes when Joe Linfield's free kick was latched on to by Steve Bracker from close range. The game was played in good spirit on a demanding surface, and players from both sides showed off battle scars after the final whistle. Thanks as ever for all the hard work put in by the team at the Web Site and congratulations to this years winners of the Marshalls Community Cup Chidham FC ! |
