Apple Day is an event which is held every September in Maybush Copse in Cot Lane, Chidham.

In the days running up to it we collect apples from people’s gardens and community spaces that might otherwise go to waste. Then on Apple Day itself these are turned into fresh apple juice or (if you wish) apple juice for turning into cider.

Everyone of all ages can get involved from the simplest of tasks like washing the apples (suitable for pre-schoolers) through to chopping apples, using the scratter, pressing and bottling.

It’s a great community event that brings everyone together and helps everyone meet new people from their neighbourhood

The event starts at 10am and at lunchtime we serve pork baps with apple sauce or a vegetarian alternative. The lunch is free, but we have a collection pot if you wish to donate.

A couple of year’s ago one of our committee members Clare did a short film of the day which gives you a flavour of what you can expect. If you’d like to get involved and help with the running of the day we’d love to hear from you. People to help set up are always appreciated, but also we require people for simpler tasks like taking charge of a cutting table and telling new people what we need.
