We are very pleased to welcome you to this page. We hope that it will provide you with helpful information about the school and interesting news about current events.
Our school is in a beautiful location overlooking the Bosham Channel and with views across the fields. There are just less than a hundred pupils, aged between 4 and 11 years old in four mixed age range classes.

Chidham is a small school with a strong family ethos. The children are offered a broad, balanced and enriched curriculum, which acknowledges different learning styles and the individual contributions that each child and their family brings to the school.

As a ‘Foundation’ school we have strong links with the local parish church and with the Diocese. St Mary’s Church is a short scenic walk away and a number of school celebrations take place there.
The school was awarded "Healthy School" status in 2006
Claire Murphy, Head Teacher, joined the school at the start of the 2011 Spring term.

Lynda Aplin retired as Head Teacher of Chidham Primary School at the end of this summer term. Lynda had been Head Teacher for sixteen years. In that time Lynda made Chidham school hugely successful, with significant improvements to the school buildings and facilities, and a sharp increase in the number of pupils and the number wanting to attend the school. She also worked very well with both the church and the community. Chidham school is both a focus for and strongly supported by the community.
We wish her well in her retirement.
A new Head Teacher has been appointed and she will start from the beginning of 2011. For the autumn term the school will be run with the help of a deputy head seconded to Chidham.

Chidham School celebrating 100 years on its present site
Saturday 17th July 2010 The 100 year celebrations were marked by a reunion of former staff and pupils at which Mrs. Aplin introduced the new head, Claire Murphy.
The hall had an historical display of life at the school and world events from the last century and the children performed Chidham schools signature maypole dance. Many class friends from year’s gone by chatted about the school and their memories over a cream tea and former pupil Arther Cooper helped Mrs. Aplin raise the flag on what was a truly magical day.

The overall effectiveness of the School - (extract from the report)
Chidham is a good school. It has a prominent profile in the local community and serves the
neighbourhood exceptionally well. The school's partnership with parents is outstanding. Parents are extremely supportive of the school and are confident that their children are exceptionally well cared for and challenged to do well. One comment typical of many can be summed up by one who said, 'It is an excellent example of a local community school where each child is encouraged to achieve their best.'

Chidham School's Walking Bus

Chidham schools walking bus set off for the first time on May 25. Children can join the bus along the route as long as they have booked a place and there are enough adults to supervise.
If you would like more details or can help please ask at the office - the bus currently operates on Fridays only but may be expanded if help can be found to share the work.

The new School Hall - official opening:
15th September 2006
Chidham school sports hall was officially opened today by Professor Philip Robinson, Principal of the University of Chichester. He unveiled a plaque made by the children and spoke to them of them importance of 'play'! Mrs. Aplin welcomed and thanked guests involved in the project, as well as governors, staff, the PTFA and, not least, the children.
The PTFA presented Mrs. Aplin with an engraved vase in recognition of her dedication to the project. The celebration concluded with a mass balloon release and of course tea and cake.
