Map showing where to find St Mary 's Church, Chidham

Welcome - to the Churches of St Mary and St Wilfrid in the Parish of Chidham

Rev Canon David Pain
There are two Anglican (Church of England) Churches in the parish of Chidham. The old church, which is situated on the peninsula, is in Cot Lane and dates back to the 14th century, and is dedicated to St. Mary.

It is a Church well worth visiting and it shows that we are very much alive in the 21st century. The second church, which is dedicated to St Wilfrid, is situated in Broad Road just north of the A259. This church replaced a former Mission Church situated in Hambrook. The complex contains the church hall which is used for various activities involving both the village and the church.

Present day C
hristians come together Sunday by Sunday to worship God and to join in the fellowship of the church.
It is wonderful to know that Churches since the 13th century have been meeting together in the same place for nearly eight hundred years. It is a privilege to be part of an on-going church passing our faith on to future generations. We are a family orientated church with some kind of activity for children every Sunday.

We see ourselves very much as the family of God here in Chidham, and our aim is to try to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ and to show to those around us the love of God in our daily living. We are also here to serve those in need in the community.

Anyone interested in joining our church will be most welcome. Should you require any further information, please feel free to contact either the Parish Priest or the Churchwardens

Oct 12 : Pets' Service at St Wilfrid's
The pets were very well behaved, and some of them also joined in with the singing.
Panorama software is very clever but did we really have identical twins in striped tops?
There are some tortoises in there - I didn't get a look in.

A latecomer was Mrs Tiggywinkle who seemed to be wanting to get into the church, but was gently removed and placed more appropriately in the churchyard
