A massive six of the penultimate ball by Noel Kithakye won the Chidham and Hambrook Web Site 20-20 cricket match for the ‘all stars'. The all stars captained by Gareth Haskett put the web site into bat following a good call by his son Josh. Richard Morgan was the first out, caught at mid wicket, with the score on 15 in the fifth over, after Stephen Johnson had retired hurt with a thigh strain. James Vigor was then bowled by one that kept low before Peter Clark was given lbw by the Umpire-his son (later also to be out lbw)! Philip Johnson was tragically run out before a fine batting dislay by Steve Foye, Jez Raymond and John Keynes took their total to 64. The all star bowlers were assisted in the field by fine catches by Mike Smith and Wim Amir and a solid performance behind the wickets by Peter Coomber. Tea was served! The web site team took to the field after a fine tea, Pimms and cake, and pinned the all stars down with some accurate bowling in the early overs. Alistair Woolley, David Hall, Vim Amir and Gareth Haskett were all bowled by an at times hostile attack. Tom Diver batted well in the middle order, while Josh Haskett's cameo innings further down was solid beyond his years, but was ended by a fine catch. Mike Smith hung around for a few overs before a fine run out assisted wonderfully by John Keynes behind the stumps. Matthew Burley played well following his call up at short notice, but the game turned with five overs remaining and the arrival at the crease of Noel Kithakye. With four overs remaining the all stars needed 36 to win; Noel hit three 6's and two 4's to seal a dramatic win. Steve Clark presented the winning captain with the traditional web site Champagne and thanked all for their support and help, especially Carol Vigor for the scoring, Tracey McEachran for the pictures and all who helped with the wonderful tea! Village cricket at it's finest. There was really only one winner! |
