| The Big Yellow Eco Bus comes to Chidfest | |
| The weather was less than wonderful, but a good time was had by all, the mud and the rain all being part of the experience. The Big Yellow Eco bus arrived on Saturday and visitors were able to pick up a wealth of information about how to save energy and reduce their use of fossil fuels both in their homes and daily lives, as well as a free low energy lightbulb. |
|
| Despite the weather, all had a great time, in fact the rain added to the festival feel! The little red tractor turned up on Sunday morning, as did the sun, to rescue bogged down campers. Children were kept busy with art workshops and a visit from 'the story teller." | |
| Sadly Chidfest has not been welcomed by all. I think the general revelry would have been tolerated but unfortunately the Firework people got their sums wrong and showered some near neighbours with incandescent items. This was regrettable and I have apologised profusely. Given that, for those who attended it seems to have been very well liked - the art tent was a fabulous success thanks to the efforts of Ellie Chilton, also the story telling Tepee with various readers telling tales to enthusiastic youngsters. The girls from the Eco Bus were very happy with their days work having converted most of the adults and a good deal of the children to numerous energy saving devices - did you know for instance that there is a low energy light bulb that will fit in a 12V halogen down lighter? - and then there was the music Ok not everyone's taste but we had everything from C17th French choral to Irish folk to rock and roll.... the turn out of over 250 was pretty good and even in the rain the spirit was fantastic, young and old - and I mean old - 70yrs+ danced and chatted through the atrocious weather. I have yet to do the final accounts but I very much hope that we will be able to achieve our fundraising aim and make a donation to World Vision. John Wyatt. |
