Road Safety in Chidham Lane
posted Mar 24
As part of a campaign to make Chidham Lane safer, local residents have prepared a report. The concerns are that there is inadequate off road parking in the vicinity of the school. This combined with the narrow width of the road leads to cars having difficulty passing. As a consequence, some cars mount the pavement in order to get past, with the consequential risk to pedestrians, both residents and of particular worry, the school children.
see the report and Traffic Data
Residents say the situation will be made worse by the WSCC plans for Chidham School to be expanded from the current 140 pupils to over 200. The school will expand to become 'one form entry', from September 2017.
The current five classes will increase to seven classes of 30 pupils starting with the reception year.
Road Safety in Chidham Lane
posted Mar 24
WSCC Cllr Sandra James has commented as follows: I hope the current Cabinet member Christine Field will listen to the arguments that are being put forward both from residents and myself as councillor for Bourne in order to recognise that when the school expansion plans move forward (to the formal planning stage), enough resources are provided to improve the road serving the school. I have also taken this up with WSCC Highways for some time now and I hope they will equally play their part with requesting the improvements necessary. It is quite intolerable towards local residents for school expansion plans to progress without recognising the wider implications of such an enlargement.

Chidham Lane Safety
Chidham Lane residents are concerned that the increase in the number of vehicles parking in the northern part of Chidham lane is putting pedestrians at risk. This worries both residents and parents of children at Chidham school.  One measure that would address the problem is the provision of additional parking capacity in the vicinity of the school. Chidham School has recently being undergoing a consultation on plans to expand the school. There is concern that this would exacerbate the parking problem.
The Parish Council decided to welcome the expansion - see PC minutes Dec 2106. It also expressed a strong desire that the parking and access should be addressed.
The decisions taken will influence life in the village for many years to come. If these are issues that concern you, you could talk to your County Councillor, District Councillors or Parish Councillors.

The Chidham & Hambrook Neighbourhood Plan
At the Full Council meeting on 20 September 2016, Chichester District Council resolved to 'Make' the Chidham & Hambrook Neighbourhood Development Plan. This means that the Chidham & Hambrook Neighbourhood Development Plan has been brought into legal force, and forms part of the statutory Development Plan for Chidham and Hambrook. Consequently, decisions on whether or not to grant planning permission in Chidham and Hambrook will need to be made in accordance with the Chidham & Hambrook Neighbourhood Development Plan, unless material considerations indicate otherwise. Spoof News section

(or why you should not believe everything you read on the internet)
What is this word spoof? It has been defined as
1 Nonsense; tomfoolery.
2 A hoax.
3 A gentle satirical imitation; a light parody.
4 The truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.
But which is it? Tricky, huh?
If you have a Spoof News Scoop, please send it to us, and we will do our best to include it today, tomorrow, sometime or ......well it depends on our lawyers, who we pay handsomely for their 'I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole' advice.

Spoof news
Currently there is not a lot of spoof news. Sometimes there just isn't any news, but it doesn't stop the BBC from filling a half hour slot with no news and repeating the 'no news' every hour on the hour. Here at Chidham and Hambrook, we tell it like it is.
However, we promise that just as soon as one of us gets round to writing some news, we will let you have it, up to the minute, just as its breaking, raw, unvarnished, cliche free, and without any attempt to hide the earth shattering implications for the local community.
Disappointed?
