Sunday July 3 Hawks v West Ashling
The Chidham and Hambrook Hawks, just like England, turned out to play West Ashling this week with their third skipper of the year. Gareth still recuperating after his facial injuries incurred the previous Sunday and his visit to A&E, deputy Paul W on tour with Keith, so vice cap JK took the toss and duly lost it! The Hawks were invited to bat against their landlords, who they have yet to beat.
Welcoming Tom Phizackerley for his season debut and Ian Harris, a friend of Neil’s (there had to be one somewhere), for his full Hawks debut. The warm up included talk of what could be a winning target. Matt ventured 320, ever keen to set the bar high with a personal target of batting for 7/8 over’s! This looked unlikely when he was dropped of the 2nd ball, and impossible when he was bowled in the 3rd over by one that swung away.
Ian was unlucky to come in and face Ashling’s county bowler (does Cornwall count?), out second ball, in what was to become a two wicket maiden and an early scare for The Hawks.
A Chidham and Hambrook rebuild was required by Ben and Andy with the score on 8 x 2 off the first 5 over’s.
Ben had an early edge through the vacant slip, but was soon middling the ball; one into mid-on’s shin to slow him down for the next ball to his left and a quick ran 3 as the fielder limped to the ropes in chase.
26 x 2 off 10 as the slow road to recovery continued.
A change of bowling, removing the pace man from the far end and a change of pace by Ben - an immediate 6 straight, one bounce on to Paul O’D’s car. The bowling started to drop short and there was the odd full toss creeping in.
57 x 2 off 15.
The 16th over was delayed as a miniature Batman and Superman were waved from behind the bowlers arm by Andy W - Super hero’s stopped play! Andy played the next ball more like Wonder Woman as he top edged it between slip and keeper, a close shave.
After drinks at 84 x 2, it was Ben’s super powers in action, a 4 square then a 6 to reach a patient half century in the 22nd over.
Sensing a recovery the Ashling skipper brought his opening bowler back in the 24th and almost trapped Andy c&b. Andy chanced his arm next over and was caught by Steve Harvey bringing Paul O’D to the wicket.
113 x 3 off 25
Paul was keen to run off his previous evening’s excesses and started with one, two and a four, his intension clear to up the pace and shake off the cob webs.
In the 28th Ben hit a straight 6 between the cars, then a 4 in the same slot followed by a nick through the keeper to bring up the 150.
At the end of the 32nd over a replacement ball was required as Ben reached a well deserved ton with a soaring 6 into next doors garden. Another 6 over the pavilion landed on his own car. Matt reported with glee, “just a small dent”, and his sixth 6 next over, took him to 111 followed by advice from the skipper to keep going; he was out next ball! 6x6 and 10x4 in his 111!
Tommy W came in and watched as Paul whacked a 6 over the electric fence, much to the fielders surprise, it was live! The 200 came up in the same over, before Tommy nicked one to the keeper.
Tom P played some fine forward defence at the pavilion end and Paul continued his barrage at the other; 6 bringing up a rapid half century and another next over before an unfortunate run out of Tom attempting a quick second.
Skipper JK came out for a cameo 1 N.O. and watched Paul c&b to end a superb 65 knock including 5x6 and 3x4.
David L was bowled first ball and Andy G was given emphatically lbw by Matt, out final ball of the innings. Steve Clark DNB (again).
232 x 9 (100 short of Matt’s target)! Reportedly the highest score on this ground in the last ten years!
Tea was taken.
David L opened from the pavilion end, running off his ample helping of cake, partnered by Tommy W. Both were miserly all day, the first runs coming in the 4th over. David was denied both a stumping by the umpire early in his spell and a close run out following an accurate throw from deep by Steve C. Matt performing well with the gloves.
It was Tommy’s pace that made the break through, clean bowled 8 for 1 off 6. In his next over he got one to lift and the ball looped up to Ben at slip. The Umpire waited for the batsman to walk before lifting his finger- fair play Nico!
Next ball and another wicket, caught David L. The hat trick ball was fended off to leg.
At this point the score board gave up but David L didn’t, Andy G put down a sharp chance at gully, so David bowled the batsman next ball!
22 x 4 off 8
31 x 4 off 12
The 13th proved unlucky for Ashling, David L the bowler again as Paul took a high one in front of the pavilion and next ball the off bail was tickled off the stumps for 2 in 2 balls.
35 x 6 off 13
and still the Hawks piled on the pressure, Paul O’D racing across the outfield and sliding full length to save 4 on the ropes. At 41 x 6 off 16 JK turned to spin and brought himself on, with instant success, turning a ball out of a patch of green to hit the stumps for the 7th wicket. Ian put down a square cut that went like a rocket, saving 4 before Ben pocketed a nick in the slip for the 8th. The next man in offered a draw on his way to the crease, politely declined, before being clean bowled second ball by Ben. He walked back to the silent pavilion as tumble weed clichéd across the outfield. Paul and Steve came on to see who could take the final wicket and it wasn’t long coming, Ben taking the catch off Paul to seal a comprehensive victory and remove a monkey off their backs. Ashling were generally gracious in defeat and will no doubt come back determined next time out to prove a point. Next stop, fresh blood as we entertain Langston, and a welcome back to Paul, Keith, Neil and Josh.
C‘mon Hawks.

Hawks v DACD at home

The Hawks welcomed DACD to Ashling, following away wins against them in 20-20 and the 40 over format already this season. DACD had a change of skipper, Meredith, and a stronger looking attack, hoping for an improved performance this time out.

The Hawks batted first, with a welcome return to Mat, minus his new bat (not yet available for selection), his old blade performed well, however, in the first over almost cutting Paul W in two with a lofted straight drive for four.

Paul was gifted a high full toss first ball and his eyes lit up in anticipation, but he missed it! Both openers were soon knocking the ball around well for 1's and 2's, but boundaries were in short supply. DACD had a huge shout in the third for Mat, caught behind, but umpire Ben G turned it down.

19 x 0 off 5

A steady start exploded in the sixth when Matt hit consecutive 6's, into the long grass of the adjacent field. DACD's skipper was only half joking when he asked for seven fielders on the leg side boundary!

At the end of the sixth over it was 36 without loss, one ball into the seventh it was 36 for 1 as Paul was bowled by one that nipped back.

Andy W came in and Mat retired next ball with an all run 4; leaving Andy mopping his brow in the middle as Justin walked confidently in following his recent good spell with the bat. He was out first ball to one lifting off a good length and clipping his glove as he withdrew the bat- caught behind.

Ben came in as the bowling changed and whacked the first slower ball into the car park, first bounce, for 4. Next over, another straight drive, this time along the ground, into the feet of the bowler. Ouch!

57 x 2 at the half way stage.

Ben and Andy cut loose at this stage with 4's to all corners and some impressive running, much to Andy's horror, and even Ben refusing a third to an erratic over throw in order to catch his breath.

79 after 13.

Ben retired in the 14 th after a 6 leaving Paul O'D to face one ball, leg side, in the air; the second golden duck of the day!

The Hawks skipper then stood and watched Andy W top edge one to fine leg, in the air, put down! Next ball, chipped back to the bowler for a sharp catch low down.

Keith came in looking for runs and he was soon off the mark, first ball, much to his relief, as the 100 came up at the end of the 17 th .

Gareth made it three retired in rapid time at the start of the final over, bringing Tommy in to face with 4 balls left. Taking a leg stump guard he was only ever going to play one shot. Unfortunately he missed the ball and his leg stump was flattened.

David L knocked a single and Keith was out last ball for a well deserved 10.

129 for 6

Justin opened the bowling from the club house end and his second ball was smacked to the short boundary in the air. Mat was well placed on the ropes to take the catch, which he did, one handed and off the ground! He then bounced into the fence and 6 was signalled. A fine effort.

David L replaced Josh, sitting this one out to concentrate on upcoming exams (some members of the team have questioned his commitment)! David took a sharp c & b to dismiss DACD's skipper after being hit for consecutive 4's.

Justin had a loud appeal turned down in the 5 th , leaving DACD on 26 x 1 off 5 and well ahead of The Hawks (19 x0) at the same stage.

In a lively spell Justin took the second wicket, clean bowled, with the batsman trying to protect the more sensitive parts of his anatomy, before Ben and Tommy took over the attack.

Paul O'D split one in the deep, but saved a certain boundary off Ben and Tommy was economical as ever, restricting DACD to 46 x 2 at the half way stage-now 11 behind The Hawks on run rate.

Ben knocked over leg stump with his last ball in the 12 th to make way for Steve C and Keith D. Steve started with a tight over considering the run chase was on and Keith was unlucky to see Paul W put down a nick to his first ball. Keith then took no chances next ball, missing out the middle man, clean bowling the batsman.

Next over was a classic Clark effort, seeing the score race on from 58 to 82, including three 6's over Justin's head! Described by one fielder as a poor second, and third over! No pictures will appear on the web site due to a shortage of gigabytes on the teams camera; however a battered ball was recovered from a near by field and has been retired from future use.

Keith calmed things down a little with a maiden and Tommy returned to dismiss the big hitter by levelling his off stump. Keith bowled out the innings to leave DACD well short of the required margin on 93 x 6.

Both teams retired to The Barleycorn and were treated to a wonderful feast plus the odd beer! Cheers all ‘till next time!

Thur June 2nd
The Hawks v The Bell - at home

Skipper Haskett won the toss yet again; the opposing captains now check the coin to see if it’s got head and tails on it, such is his fearsome reputation.
The Hawks took to the field to bowl with a welcome return back to Robbie and Carol, in a sun top!
Josh opened with a loosener, 2 wide’s, 1 no ball, but no runs off the bat; to be fair the batsman couldn’t even get his bat near the ball. At the other end Justin almost completed a wicket maiden, a sharp chance to slip spilt by Gareth. Josh had a nick through the slips in the third and a 4 off the edge before his luck changed and, clean bowled the first Bell wicket down for a handful of runs.
Success too in his next over with Jimmy taking a catch and brother Tommy chasing down in the field saving four. The hawks youth policy in action!
20 for 2 off 5.

Both opening bowlers kept it tight. Assisted by sharp fielding and some great returns from the deep. Robby in particular impressive.
Justin finished his spell with 5 for 0 off 4 over’s. Including at last ball dropped catch by Andy W, with his shirt tucked in!
It was 30 or 2 off 8 when the bowling change came.
Could Keith keep it tight?
Keith’s third ball a catch to Justin the slip- taken! Keith’s forth ball, no fielder require, clean bowled. Hat trick ball, the batsman played and missed and the ball sailed through to Paul behind. Not out.
Tommy entered the attack and but for a communication error between Josh and Neil, could have had a wicket in his first over.
37 for 4 off 10.
The Bell would have to start hitting out soon or it could be a long evening in the pub. Keith’s second over started with a boundary; this could be the start of the acceleration. Next ball caught by Gareth at cover.
Tommy then chipped in second ball of the twelfth over middle stump horizontal. Third ball, all three stumps ajar. Bowled off his pads and the second hat trick chance of the innings pending. With the field in the next ball had the batsman defending as it thundered into his pads but down leg side, not out.
40 for 7 off 12.
Andy Wild replaced Keith and Steve Clark replaced Tommy after 3 over’s each. Steve saw off the Bells top scorer in his first over, unfortunately retired, not out. After hitting two boundaries. But success next ball another Haskett senior catch.
79 for 8 off 16.
The first six came from Andy’s first ball of the 17th over and a tight stumping shout was refused by the umpire in Steve’s next. Paul quick off the mark, with his gloves and the appeal. Andy wild took a well deserved wicket with his last ball, a brilliantly disguised slow delivery that a fielder said he saw coming “three days ago”.
The batmen finished with a bit of a flurry, in the final over four buys one leg buy and a six. But they must have felt 108 for 9 were at least 20 runs short of a competitive total.

The reply
Paul and Gareth opened in the absence of Matt and it was a steady start, the first boundary coming in the forth over, taking the score to 26; at least a dozen of which were extras, following a wayward first over, containing 12 deliveries which brought a wry smile to the face of Steve Clark, umpiring at the bowlers end.
Gareth was dropped in the sixth and Paul ran himself out in the eighth following a school boy error, or was it just following a school boy?
Andy Wild replaced Paul and watched Gareth play on next ball. The 50 came up in the 9th, and it was Andy and Justin who now built on the solid start at the boundary’s flowed.
Andy was dropped with the score on 70, hit the subsequent ball for 4, and was then caught attempting the same shot again next delivery.
Justin retired yet again following and 4 and a 6 leaving Neil and Josh to wrap up the comprehensive victory, inside 15 over’s.

It was apt that the winning runs came for a buy ran off a wide in a Bell bowling attack littered with extras.
This win is yet again a sign of the Hawk’s improvement this year having lost twice to the Bell in the 2010 season.
It’s now 5 out of 5 Hawks fans!
Sun May 29th
Hawks v DACD (Away)

Scorecard

So here we are at the end of May, so far unbeaten with our first Sunday fixture of the season again v DACD at their Rowlands Castle cricket ground.
It was a grey blustery day totally typical for an early summer cricket match!; the two skippers Guy Andrews of DACD and Haskett Snr for C&H walked to the wicket, it was agreed on the way that both skippers would prefer C&H to bat so after the customary photo without the toss of a coin, C&H would have first knock.

Without Mat our opening run machine, Gareth as skipper volunteered to open with Paul to try and start the innings confidently, although both players had a couple of nervous moments with calling, the stand was into the mid twenties when Paul cut a ball to cover point and was caught. Andy came in at three but was unfortunately undone by the wiles of the off spinner and was bowled in the next over.
So with the score of 30 for 2 Justin joined Gareth at the wicket and the rest is history – records tumbled, both players played aggressively through the covers, lofting drives over the bowlers heads and unleashing carnage through midwicket so it was no surprise when both players brought up their fifties.
Although tiring the runs continued and a pact was made in the event of a player reaching their hundred they would retire, and so it came to place with the partnership reaching 197 Justin smashed a ball through the leg side to retire on 101, the first batsman to score a hundred for Chidham & Hambrook C.C.
Josh then joined his father at the crease with the hope of being there when the second centurion would raise his bat, alas fatigue got the better of the skipper and he was bowled in the next over for 94.

So with just over 33 overs gone it was left to the young guns to finish off the innings in style and that they did, with Josh smashing a 6 through midwicket and finishing on 18, Neil hammering 4 boundaries closing on 20 and Jimmy demonstrating his elegant shots through the offside, it was then left to Clive and David to see out the last over with another further onslaught of runs with Clive finishing on 16no.

Chidham & Hambrook innings finished on 275 – 7 wickets off their 40 allotted overs.

DACD’s reply

The opening over was to be bowled by David running down the hill for a change and Josh from the pavilion end and both bowlers gave little away.
The DACD openers were looking sound but David produced the breakthrough with a superb caught and bowled within his next over and C&H were up and running.
The next few overs gave very little and with the wicket being true the opening spell ended with DACD being 39-1 off 10 overs.
A joint change brought on Clive and Tom which produced immediate dividends with Clive gaining a wicket with a catch by Tom at cover point and a couple of overs later with another by a catch by Neil in the covers.
Fielding was superb with Jimmy and Neil being very fleet of foot and by the bravery of Steve & David with the undulations of the outfield.
Tom was bowling a very dangerous spell finishing unluckily with figures of 8 overs 0 for 13, this brought David back who bowled the opposition skipper Guy Andrews and then had another caught behind by Paul who gave another top drawer performance behind the stumps.
Steve gave us two spells from either end bowling up and downhill to prove what an indispensable bowler he is, but to finish Josh came back to bowl his last three overs for three runs and a wicket off his last ball, the batsman bowled and Steve catching the bail at fine leg!

DACD finally finishing on 115 – 6 wickets off their 40 allotted overs.

C&H C.C. winning by 160 runs.

Many thanks to all from DACD who gave us another great match.

Hawks V's The All Stars
Scorecard

After winning their first two games on the road it was back to the adopted home at West Ashling for the first time this season with a couple of season debuts; Jimmy Wild and Steve Clark. Carol was also back in the chair to see Gareth lose his first toss of the season -The Hawks took the field to bowl!

Mat ran in from the pavilion and Josh opened at the far end. Josh had the first big chance when a lofted drive was dropped by Mat over his left shoulder, and to rub salt in the wound 2 balls later he was hit for 6! It looked like it was going to be one of those days!

In the fifth over Mat had a ball drop agonizingly between Neil and Steve, giving The All Stars a good start of 23 for 0 off 5.

The break through came with the last ball of Josh's third over, clean bowled, middle stump; a wonderful sight.

Tommy W replaced Mat and was fast and accurate, but catching was again to let The Hawks down in the eight over, Keith putting down a hard and fast spinning ball in Josh's final over. Tommy was then edged over the keeper for 4 in the next and the score moved on to 45 for 1 (and 2 dropped).

Ben came on to bowl over number ten and there was a chance of a run out as Keith tried to throw down the stumps, missing narrowly. 50 came up next ball with a boundary.

Steve only managed to get his fingers to a low one fired back past Tommy for the third chance down, but in the next over the game was about to take a turn. Ben got some extra lift, the batsman edged the ball onto his upper arm and Andy Wild took a magnificent catch at first slip.

In the next over and his first of the season, Steve Clark got the edge with his third ball and Paul snapped a sharp low catch behind. The fourth ball spooned up and Mat took the catch as well, but in a missed opportunity, the field stayed back with the batsman under pressure and the hat trick ball was fended away with out incident. At least Clarky avoided an expensive round in the Old House later.

75 for 4 off 15, and Keith Davey entered the fray; last delivery, caught by Jimmy after juggle only inches in from the ropes. A couple of inspired bowling changes from the skipper had swung the match in favour of The Hawks at last.

Neil managed to drop 2 in Steve's next over, bringing the total to at least 5 missed chances (and that's being conservative). Ben finished the innings with a run out after grabbing the ball in his follow through. The All Stars finishing with a charitable 107 for 6. It could have been a lot worse if The Hawks had followed Andy Wild's example and tucked in their shirts (apparently the cause of all the dropped catches)!

Mat and Paul opened with a near run out, if it had hit, off Matt off the second ball and a dropped catch later in the first over.

In the third The All Stars fast bowler collapsed in his follow through, an ankle problem, but recovered well and kept it tight. The first boundary came in the fourth from Mat, who living dangerously was dropped in the 5 th before Paul was bowled, off stump, next ball.

Andy came in to see Matt hit a four into the pavilion and subsequent retirement. The skipper strode out to the crease, and soon strode back-lbw PLUMB!

60 for 2 off 10. Up with the required run rate and Ben in to bat with Andy Wild.

A communication error, followed by an apology by Ben, led to Andy's demise in a run out and Josh was next man in, and soon off the mark - first ball 2 down to fine leg.

Ben was dropped off the first ball in the thirteenth over and in the fourteenth Josh hit a wonderful 6, which went to his head, clean bowled next ball! Neil came in and Ben went out-retired. 85 for 4 off 14.

Keith was in all too briefly, out for a duck, giving way to Jimmy.

With 4 required to win Neil tried a reverse sweep, giving way to much hilarity from the pavilion, managing 1 down leg side next ball and giving Jimmy the strike.

A classic drive had Jimmy of the mark and the scores tied followed by a 4 all along the ground and a well deserved victory.

3 out of 3, but a bit of catching practice required by all, and the reverse sweep by Neil!

Well done to all for a 100% turn out in the pub. Neil and Mat (have a good holiday and make time to get a new bat) for winning the raffle and Steve and Paul for helping drown Keith's sorrows till the early hours!

Till next time, C'mon Hawks.

Steve - Ed.

Thur May 19th - DACD away
The evening was fine and the eager Hawks had arrived nice and early at Rowlands Castle parish council recreation ground for the evenings match v DACD, even David arrived on time and we were all glad he would at least appear in the team photo this time!

The two skippers agreed on the match format and tossed the coin, Skipper Haskett once again called correctly and was promptly told by the opposition captain they would bat and walked back to the pavilion. Skipper Haskett slightly non-plussed and probably more than hussled thought “what the hell, more than happy to chase anyway”; although openers Mat and Paul were definitely thinking wouldn't be good to bat in daylight for a change.

So for the second match running Justin was asked to open the bowling with Josh after his Man of the Match performance last week and get us under way. Although not as prolific as last week it was a good fast opening over which never gave the batsman anything. So on to Josh coming down the hill, his first delivery was fast, wild and frightening for both batsman and wickey, but he then again settled nicely into a fast skiddy rhythm.
Justin brought the breakthrough in his second over when he ripped the openers off-stump from the ground and Josh's endeavours earned him a wicket in his third over, when a startled batsman managed an edge and was caught at first slip by his dad, a proud and relieved father and skipper.
The run rate slowed even further with the introduction of David and Ben who in tandem bowled a miserly spell of 8 overs for 20 runs and both had many near misses to add to their wickets taken this year. Next up was Jon with his first spell of the season and in his second over brought the downfall of a DACD batsman with a well flighted delivery that pitched, held its own, skidded through and trapped said batsman LBW. Mat from the other end was bowling with control and some reverse swing that was causing the batsman no end of problems, and was very unlucky in not adding to the end column. So after the last over was bowled DACD finished on 82 for 3 off their 20 overs, good score? Who knows until the visitors had batted?

Hawks Reply

The Hawks opening partnership of Mat & Paul walked confidently to the crease intent on giving us the start we needed, Mat settled in well with a couple of boundaries but Paul copped a full one on the toe and was given out LBW, Paul the gentleman that he is agreed it was probably out but it still hurt like hell!.

Next up Justin who after a boundary and a couple came down the wicket to the off spinner and was stumped, enter the Skipper for his first joust of the season, and then after seeing Mat being caught to a good catch at point managed to totally misjudge a shot to midwicket and was comprehensively bowled.
So the Hawks were four down for not many and once again Ben was joined by Paul O'D to steady the innings and after a slow start this was achieved, with Paul giving us the impetus we needed with a controlled score of 20 which unfortunately was ended by a stumping when he slightly wandered out of his crease and the bails were removed by the DACD wickie.

So it was left to Ben who finished on 21no and a late cameo by Andy 16no to give us win number two by 5 wickets with more than four overs spare.

Hawks Win by 5 Wickets

Once again great match, another great result and our thanks go to DACD for hosting us this evening.

Assistant Ed – Skip,
“Ed - Steve will definitely be back next week”.

Ever wondered what DACD stands for? Me, neither.
Or what Britney spears has got to do with it?

Season opener May 12 th v Lavant away

So here we are in a quintessential English scene, a village cricket ground on an early summer evening eagerly waiting the start of the season opener v Lavant.
Skipper Haskett called correctly and opted to field giving first use of the new cherry on a greenish wicket to our bowlers, but then another quintessential hawk-like scenario happened with a phone call from one our players, (opening bowler as well – sorry he has previous history of this) saying “Sorry skip going to be 10 minutes late, I thought we were playing at home” so with a quick change of thought Justin was asked to loosen up to open the bowling with Josh.

Lavants Innings

Great decisions are often forced upon us so even after the first ball was called for a wide the next castled the stumps 1-1, just the start the Hawks were looking for.

So it carried on with Josh bowling with hostility and control, and Justin intent on bowling Lavant out on his own, after 6 overs gone Lavant were 13-4 with Justin gaining a slightly dubious LBW, and another couple of wickets by good catches by Mat at extra cover and David at cover point.

First changes to the attack brought on David “only slightly late” and Ben who both carried on the relentless assault against the Lavant batsman, both bowling through with Ben finishing a miserly spell of 4 overs for 7 runs and David picking up a couple of wickets, one bowled and the other another catch at extra cover running in by Mat the Cat Chesshire. So 14 overs gone Lavant were stumbling at 38 for 6.

Further changes brought on Clive for David and Mat for Ben, not a lot of variation for the skipper to pick from but 6 good out an out quickies, not that the skipper was complaining.

Both bowled good lengths and Clive was rewarded with a wicket caught by the skipper at short cover. So after 18 overs it was now 60 for 7 and possibly a Hawk record was in the making so Justin and Josh were asked to come back for the last couple of overs with the possibility of Justin becoming the first Hawk to gain a 5fer. It got even better with balls three and four again castling the stumps and Justin was on a hatrick, not this time but he did finish with figures of 4 overs 6 for 6 “outstanding effort”. Josh finished the innings with less luck and although he had three inside edges whistling past the stumps and a couple of edges through first slip finished wicket less for his spell although off his last ball a run out was managed by a smart throw from Paul O'D and the eventual bail removal by our wickey Paul W who again put in a good shift behind the stumps.

Further praise to Keith for his out fielding and Jimmy the younger “wild” for almost managing a couple of run-outs on his own.

Lavant finished 72 all out.

Hawks Reply

So with shadows lengthening across the ground regular openers Mat & Paul strode to the wicket hoping to send us on our way and that they did. Even with a slower wicket then they would normally like after 4 overs we were 28 without loss, another good start.

Unfortunately the next four overs only increased the score by 14 runs for the loss of Mat, Paul and Keith all undone by the vagaries of the wicket. Odd stat so far all wickets falling to the bowlers had come from the pavilion end, I think next year we will have a queue for one end and a dirge of interest from the other, hopefully they will forget.

To the close, Ben and Paul O'D were together at the crease and both finished 18 not out with a good smattering of attacking shots and boundaries between them and Paul finishing it with a four through cover.

Hawks 73 – 3, winning by 7 wickets with over 8 overs in hand

Great match, great result, great hosts thanks again to Lavant who we look forward to playing again later in the season.

Assistant Ed – Skip “who's looking forward to Steve sartorial report next time”
