The Rev Paul Matthews had his first Sunday services in St Mary's Chidham on 23rd September.

Despite the weather the church was packed.

Father Paul made an instant hit with the children (and adults) with his magic Bible Colouring book.

I'm still baffled.

A lovely day for two baptisms at St Mary's Church

May 13th: Despite a wet miserable sort of a morning, 95 people attended the 10 o'clock Sunday morning service held in the new Chidham school hall.

The service included the baptism of six people and we welcome them into the family of the Church.

Today 1.3 billion people live in extreme poverty.
Tonight 800 million people will go to bed hungry.
This year 12 million children will die before their fifth birthday.
Please give as much as you can this week to Christian Aid (13-19 May),
To mark its Golden Jubilee Christian Aid is going green by encouraging people of all ages to plant trees in support of its overseas work on climate change projects. Envelopes are available at St Mary's Church, or you can give on line.

Christmas 2007

The services were well attended with the church full to overflowing for several of the services.

St Mary's was beautiful with the Christmas tree and lights, the crib, splendid candles and a wonderful display of flowers.

Children played a full part, especially at the Chidham School Carol service and the Crib service on Christmas Eve.

Father David pictured outside St Mary's on Christmas Morning.

Nine Lessons and Carols
185 people crammed in to St Mary's for the service of Nine Lessons and Carols. Ben Haynes started the evening with a wonderful solo. The 'scratch' choir conducted by Rod Starr sang several carols including 'I saw a maiden', the Coventry Carol and 'There is no rose' composed by our very own Rod Starr, and finally a magnificent arrangement of 'The Holly and The Ivy.'
Clearly this was a very popular service, as were the mince pies and mulled wine served in the vicarage afterwards.

Sister Rita Margaret was in Chidham leading discussions about the meaning of the Eucharist on saturday morning (Nov 25th) at St Wilfrid's and explaining some aspects of the Eucharist during the Parish Eucharist at St Mary's on Sunday 26th November.

The idea behind the shoebox appeal is to send Christmas presents to children overseas, for example in Eastern Europe, India and Africa, who otherwise would have very little.

Over 75 boxes were collected.
Thanks to Clare and Karen and everyone who contributed.

Songs of Praise
A good congregation attended St Mary's on Sunday Evening, October 8th for Songs of Praise chosen by the Chidham WI. The theme was the Harvest and there were readings with a local interest. Thanks to Delph Archer who organised and introduced the hymns and readings and Rod Starr who played the organ.
