| Tim Yair | Firstly, congratulations - my first visit to your website - pretty good! Certainly full of useful info.
Now for my e-mail - perhaps a bit of an odd one! - but is was prompted by the latest parish newsletter (people do read it!)
I work for the Council on a project to raise awareness of climate change - unfortunately a problem that will affect us all. One part of the project is a "challenge" to everyone to do their bit - the 10% challenge. Launched in January, we've already had good interest, and are looking to develop the project further. The challenge is primarily web-based, but hard copies and traditional media are also used. As well as giving information about the project, it has a few "footprint" calculators to measure your transport, water and energy usage, and the amount of waste created. The site takes online pledges, which puts a "pin" in a map, and also has a "Blog" section to get people discussing the issues important to them.
One of the areas we are currently looking to develop is what I am calling the "champion" pages. These are to highlight good examples of what people are doing - showing how easy it is to do your bit. So far the only "live" information is from the Council, although there are a number of individuals who are putting together information about themselves. I would also like to get a local community point of view. And what better community, than my own! I've lived in Hambrook for a couple of years now, and I know a great deal of environmental work does go on in the parish (although I've never got to any of the events yet - perhaps with your website, I may be able to keep up with things a bit better).
It would be great to use Chidham and Hambrook to show how a community can do its 10%. If you visit the site you will see that so far only 5 people from our area have pledged. There are any number of other options that might be interesting, so I would be interested to hear your initial feelings about this proposal.
Please feel to pass this on to anyone else you think may be interested.
In the meantime, please visit the 10% challenge website at www.10percentchallenge.org.uk - and perhaps pledge!
Kind regards, and good luck with your endeavours |
