Fly Tipping
Hambrook

see guide to fly tipping
Just need to warn and also ask residents to be vigilant re fly tipping. The bridleway linking Broad Road and Hambrook Hill South has yet again had large amounts of rubbish tipped there .This time the padlock has been cut through and they have dumped a huge pile of metal, wood and broken glass which is obviously hazardous to children, dogs and horses. This is about the fifth time this year this has happened but this is by far the largest amount and the most hazardous as previously it was just household rubbish. Kind Regards, Lorraine posted Dec 5

"Hambrook Pond and Mill"

"I wonder if you can help me, as I have come across a photo of my mother sitting in front of a pond and mill in the 1940s, and written on the back is "Hambrook Pond and Mill" - in my writing as mum told me this in the mid 1990s". Thanks to all who were able to identify the photo as West Ashling Mill pond.

Rodney Duggua says 'West Ashling Mill was unusual as it was once a combined Steam, Wind and Water mill. The Windmill part was a hollow post mill mounted on the roof. It was built in 1860 and removed in 1955.'

Spoof News section

(or why you should not believe everything you read on the internet)
What is this word spoof? It has been defined as
1 Nonsense; tomfoolery.
2 A hoax.
3 A gentle satirical imitation; a light parody.
4 The truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.
But which is it? Tricky, huh?
If you have a Spoof News Scoop, please send it to us, and we will do our best to include it today, tomorrow, sometime or ......well it depends on our lawyers, who we pay handsomely for their 'I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole' advice.

Spoof news
Currently there is not a lot of spoof news. Sometimes there just isn't any news, but it doesn't stop the BBC from filling a half hour slot at 1pm with no news and repeating the 'no news' every hour on the hour. Here at Chidham and Hambrook, we tell it like it is.
However, we promise that just as soon as one of us gets round to writing some news, we will let you have it, up to the minute, just as its breaking, raw, unvarnished, cliche free, and without any attempt to hide the earth shattering implications for the local community.
Disappointed?
Have a look at the spoof news archive
